2023 Elections : INEC Holds Townhall Meetings With Anambra Traditional Rulers, PGs
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has charged Community leaders to take full responsibility of political grassroot sensitization for the successful conduct of the 2023 general election.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, in Anambra state, Dr. Queen Elizabeth Agwu, gave the charge at a Three-Day INEC Town Hall Meeting with Traditional Rulers and Presidents-General of the three Senatorial Districts in Anambra State.
She stressed the importance of Voter Education to successful election process and urged them to live up to their social responsibility as leaders.
Addressing the last batch of Traditional Rulers and PGs from Anambra South Senatorial Zone at INEC headquarters in Awka, the State Electoral Commissioner lamented the Security Vulnerability of INEC workers in the areas, and appealed to the Community leaders to work assiduously as leaders to ensure that they rid their areas of bad elements and provide conducive environment for INEC staff to do their jobs safely during the election period.
She restated their commitment towards conducting free, fair and credible election in the State, noting that the success of the election would enhance the corporate existence of the country.
Dr. Agwu while debunking Social Media propaganda of thumb printing before PVC Collection, said that they need to sign their signatures to authenticate the collection.
In his Remarks, the Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council, Anambra South, and the Traditional Ruler of Ezinifite, Igwe Bob Orji, thanked the New Management of INEC in Anambra State for initiating the New Political Awareness Strategy for the three Senatorial Zones and assured that they will not only step down the information garnered to the grassroots, but also ensure they provide conducive environment for INEC to conduct peaceful elections in their Zones.
Contributing, The Chairman of PGs from Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Mr Dennis Muomaife, maintained that though they had security challenges in their areas, the situation is presently under control since they have already set motions on course to curb the menace through consultations and setting up of Committees.
Other PGs who spoke during the interactive session further pleaded with the INEC Boss to involve them alongside political parties in the procedure of the distribution of sensitive materials during the election period to take full responsibility for the electoral process in their domains.
In a vote of thanks, the State INEC Administrative Secretary, Mr. Jude Okwuonu, appreciated the community leaders for honoring the invitation, urged them to take full advantage of the meeting by initiating aggressive grassroots mobilization.
