The Federal Government has captured the biometric data of 59,786 inmates, representing 74 percent of the 80,879 inmates in Nigeria’s 256 custodial centres.

Spokesman of the Nigerian Correctional Service, DCC Abubakar Umar, made this known in a statement on Sunday.

He dismissed media reports alleging that National Identification Number registration had not commenced in prisons, describing them as false and misleading.

Umar affirmed the government’s commitment to full digital documentation of inmates as part of broader security reforms.
