Nigerian Swimming representative at the Tokyo Olympics, Abiola Ogunbanwon made history at the games on Wednesday by smashing the Nigerian Women’s 100m freestyle rcord.
Ogunbanwon, who is 17, won her heat with 59.74 seconds, becoming the first Nigerian woman ever to finish the event in less than one minute and surpassed Ngozi Monu’s record of 1:15 m achieved at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
Despite her historic feat however, her winning time fell short of the best 16 times required to progress into the semi-final.
