Henceforth, Parks and Markets that fail to participate in Monthly Sanitation Exercise will be shutdown.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Felix Odimegwu, who disclosed this during the end of April edition of the Clean-Up exercise, said the sanitation order is taking effect from this month of May.
The Commissioner hinted that the Ministry will inject more force into the exercise as a way of ensuring a cleaner State, lamenting that the State environment is under threat as a result of unfriendly attitudes of most residents to their environments.
The Commissioner assured that vigorous transformation is expected to restore cleaner environment, adding that the measures to be taken include community participation approach, six hours refuse collection, stronger partnership with refuse collectors for sustainability and waste to wealth approach.
He advised citizens and residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and observed that to fight the over 900 erosion sites in Anambra State, residents and real estate developers must imbibe the attitude of tree planting.
Commissioner Odimegwu also called on the people to avoid deforestation, as the state government is committed to ensuring that every building has more than one tree.
Some people, who were apprehended during monitoring of the Sanitation exercise in parts of the State by the Commissioner and his team, were made to take part in the exercise.
They, however, begged for forgiveness and promised to henceforth, participate fully in the exercise.
