The need to increase health awareness in Nigeria with regards to Health Insurance has been emphasized as one of the ways to have access to affordable and quality healthcare. This was revealed by the Director General of the National health, NHIA. Prof. Mohammed Sambo at the training workshop for National Orientation Agency’s personnel in Uyo.
Represented by the Acting Director of Media NHIA, Mr Sambo Ononokpono, Sambo said that the training is to create knowledge and educate , as well attain Universal Health Coverage in the country. He emphasized that the NHIA is collaborating with the NOA to train community Mobilisation Officers so they can bear and transmit the message at the various local levels as the new NHIA Act 2022 is designed to make health insurance mandatory for all Nigerians .
The state coordinator of NHIA , Mr Williams Ebiokobo said that health insurance affords peace of mind without financial pressure in case of medical emergencies, affordable healthcare Lifetime renewability, cashless hospitalization and network of hospitals.
The Director General of NOA, Dr Garba Abari also assured that NOA is interested in taking the programme to the grassroots so that all Nigeriand will benefit from the activities of the NHIA. He also said that proper information will make people have faith in health insurance.
