Report has it that the Federal Government has threatened to open borders for cement importation if local manufacturers do not reduce prices.
This was stated by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
He emphasized that key input materials for cement production are sourced within Nigeria and should not be dollar-rated.
Dangiwa urged manufacturers to be more patriotic, citing BUA Cement’s willingness to lower prices but manufacturers blame high costs of gas and mining equipment for price hikes.
The government warned that mass importation would crash cement prices, adversely affecting local manufacturers.
