The Federal Government is on track to convert one million vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel.
Mr. Omo Imoukhuede, Commercial Operations Manager of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNI) said this during a tour of CNG kit conversion workshops in Abuja.
Imoukhuede announced plans to open more centers nationwide, starting with Abuja.
He highlighted the strategic efforts to promote CNG adoption, awareness and help reduce transportation costs on mass transit and commercial transport operators.
At the NIPCO Plc CNG station, Assistant Manager Mr. Sunday Ayoola explained that the conversion kit installation takes about five hours and allows vehicles to run on both petrol and CNG.
He assured motorists of the safety of the CNG cylinders, noting their design to withstand impact and high temperatures.
Ayoola emphasized the safety advantages of CNG over petrol, stating that natural gas is lighter and disperses quickly in case of leakage, reducing the risk of ignition.
