Ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, the National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has identified flashpoints that may threaten peaceful polls.

Through its secretariat, The Kukah Centre, the committee listed Awka South, Awka North, Ihiala, Nnewi South, Idemili North, Orumba South, and Ayamelum councils as prone to separatist activity, kidnapping, cultism, and political thuggery.

The warning came during an EU-sponsored stakeholders’ forum across the three senatorial zones.

Deborah Obafemi of The Kukah Centre urged grassroots participation in peacebuilding, while traditional rulers stressed voter education.

Stakeholders pledged renewed commitment to ensure peaceful, credible, and inclusive elections under the EU-SDGN programme.
