President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the pivotal role of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Africa’s defense market.
Speaking at DICON’s 60th anniversary and the inaugural Africa Defence Industries Conference in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted DICON’s repositioning to harness private sector innovation for advancing indigenous defense production.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akuma, Tinubu stressed his commitment to the growth of Nigeria’s Military Industrial Complex, citing the signing of the DICON Act 2023 within his first six months in office.
This act aims to enhance DICON’s capabilities, introducing automated production lines for advanced military equipment, including drones and specialized assault rifles.
The President also unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art micro motherboard processing facility to drive AI innovations.
These initiatives, aligned with the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” are expected to boost national security, create jobs, and propel economic growth in Nigeria
