In a recent development, the Rivers State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime in the Olu Obasanjo area of Port Harcourt. Two suspected armed robbers, identified as Ikenna Obiko, aged 30, and Isichukwu Eneji, aged 24, were apprehended while riding on a motorcycle.

According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Grace Iringe-Koko, the duo confessed to engaging in various criminal activities, including targeting bank customers. Their modus operandi involved loitering near banks to assess customers’ withdrawals, trailing them, and robbing them when the opportunity arose.

The suspects also admitted to stealing parked motorcycles and robbing individuals at ATMs. Additionally, they were involved in a recent robbery case where they forcibly took N100,000 from a pickup truck driver transporting noodle supplies.

Both suspects, from Oguta in Imo State, cited influences from deceased community leaders and relatives in their criminal activities. They claimed that they relocated to Port Harcourt last year due to unrest in their hometowns.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the immediate prosecution of the suspects and urged residents to remain vigilant during banking transactions. He emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the police, urging cooperation from the public in efforts to combat crime in the state.
