The Anambra State Government has suspended two health workers over negligence and absenteeism.
Njideka Ezeihejiofor, Officer-in-Charge at Ukpo Primary Healthcare Centre, was suspended for refusing to attend to a pregnant woman, leading to a stillbirth.
The patient had sought help after noticing her baby was no longer kicking. However, Ezeihejiofor turned her away, citing fatigue.
Blessing Offor, Officer-in-Charge at Uke Primary Healthcare Centre, was also suspended for consistently absenting herself from work.
The disciplinary panel, chaired by Commissioner for Health, Afam Obidike, demoted Ezeihejiofor and suspended her salary, while Offor was ordered to refund eight months’ wages.
Obidike reaffirmed the state’s commitment to quality healthcare and urged residents to report negligence in health facilities.
