A US-based company, Firefly Aerospace, has successfully landed its spacecraft on the Moon, becoming the second private mission to do so and the first to land upright.
The Blue Ghost Mission 1 touched down at 3:34 am Eastern Time near Mons Latreille, a volcanic region on the Moon’s near side. CEO Jason Kim confirmed the spacecraft’s stability, a major improvement from last February’s sideways landing by another private mission.
This mission, part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program, aims to support future Artemis missions. On March 16, it will capture a lunar sunset, studying dust behavior on the Moon’s surface.
Meanwhile, concerns grow over NASA’s priorities, as speculation rises about shifting focus from the Artemis program to Mars exploration.
