Tensions in Rivers State escalated Monday as 26 lawmakers accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, of gross misconduct.
In letters sent to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the lawmakers cited reckless spending, obstruction of the Assembly, illegal appointments without proper screening, and withholding of Assembly salaries.
The accusations, presented during plenary, comply with Section 188 of Nigeria’s Constitution, requiring one-third of Assembly members to endorse such claims. Speaker Amaewhule has formally notified the governor and deputy, giving them 14 days to respond.
This development marks a new chapter in Rivers’ ongoing political crisis, with uncertainty surrounding how Fubara and Odu will address the allegations.
