OCHA Brigade Seals Fake Factory in Anambra

Operatives of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State (OCHA Brigade) have sealed off a factory in Obosi allegedly producing  fake and counterfeit disinfectants.

The raid which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, targeted an illegal disinfectant manufacturing facility located at 14 Chris Ugoezu, Odume Obosi.

During the operation, officers discovered a stockpile of unregistered chemicals, packaging materials, and finished products being prepared for sale to unsuspecting consumers, all without the necessary licenses or NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) approval.

Commenting on the incident, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, said thousands of counterfeit  and fake disinfectants in liquid form, were discovered during the operation, along with fake medicated and antiseptic soaps, including replicas of well-known brands.

These counterfeit products were found to be harmful to human health.

Anere said investigations revealed that the factory was using manual-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners in the production of those counterfeit goods.

The MD of Ocha Brigade Comrade Anere emphasized that the state government has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of illegality and will continue to take decisive action against such criminal activities.

Some residents of the area, including Mr. Ikechukwu Ukatu and Ms. Amarachi Deborah who spoke with reporters said  the  factory’s operator, a neighbor, rarely interacted with others and kept their illicit activities well-hidden from the community.
