Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have clinched bronze at the 2025 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating hosts Egypt 4-1 on penalties.
The third-place match held Sunday at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Egypt scored early, but Nigeria equalised through Bidemi Amole in the 47th minute. A penalty shootout followed, where Nigeria converted all four spot-kicks with ease. Fifteen-year-old goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt made two crucial saves.
This marks Nigeria’s fifth bronze and 14th overall podium finish in U-20 AFCON history.
The win also reinforces Nigeria’s strong record against host nations, having beaten Egypt on home soil in two consecutive editions of the tournament.
