POLICE NABBED SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, KILLERS OF DR. AUDU BENEDICT, SON AND ASSOCIATE

25 other criminal suspects for various heinous crimes; 6 AK47 rifles, cache of live ammunition and other incriminating items recovered.

Police Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team have arrested two (2) suspects for the kidnap of a Medical Doctor, Audu Benedict, his son and one of his associates in Katsina-ala LGA, Benue State while travelling from Taraba State to Abuja on 10th March, 2019.

The suspects, Mr. Henry Terkula Gwa 25 years old from Donga LGA of Benue State and Mr Terhile Tsavbe, 30 years old from Gawa village, Katsina-ala LGA of Benue State were arrested on the 6th and 11th June, 2020 following intense search for the victims and manhunt for the perpetrators by the Police team.

Investigations revealed that the criminal gang collected 7.5 million naira as ransom from the families of the victims as condition for their release.

 The suspects forced the late Dr Audu Benedict to issue them a cheque of five hundred thousand naira which they cashed in a commercial bank in Gboko town, Benue State. Subsequently, the suspects killed the three (3) victims and had them buried in a shallow grave at Gawa in Katsina-ala LGA of Benue State.

While effort is being intensified to arrest other suspects still at large, the police team is on the verge of exhuming the remains of the slain victims.

In a similar development, the Police have arrested 25 other criminal suspects for their involvements in a varying cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and illegal possession of prohibited firearms currently under investigations.

The suspects are members of high-profile criminal gangs terrorizing communities and major highways of the North-Central and North-West States of the country.

Exhibits recovered by the police team from the suspects include: 6 AK47 rifles, three (3) locally fabricated pump action guns, One (1) locally fabricated pistol, 2 dane guns, 55 rounds of AK47 ammunition, 4 empty magazines, one (1) laptop computer and One (1) Toyota Corolla Car with REG No. MKD 13 RC.

All the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, has assured that the battle against criminal elements in the country is a continuous one.

He called for all hands to be on deck towards decisive victory and reclaiming of the public space from the criminal elements.

Anambra State Police Command says 20th of this month, at about 9:pm, following a tip off, Police operatives attached 33 Division in collaboration with Nsugbe Vigilante group, arrested a lady, Chidera Nwaoga, aged 24, of Ofianta village, Nsugbe, but Native  of Izzi LGA of Ebonyi State.

Police said suspect was arrested with a premature baby girl concealed inside a rubber bucket on her way to bury  the child inside the bush before she was apprehended.

According to a release issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed,  preliminary investigation revealed that the woman who was heavenly pregnant approached a quack and untrained chemist, one Odimegwu Ikunne, aged 51 years of Nando village but resides at Akpalagu village, Nsugbe, who allegedly administered injection on her and aborted the pregnancy.

The report said the premises of the quack chemist was searched and some  quantity of expired drugs and syringes were recovered while the said Chidera, who was weak and lost much blood when arrested has now fully recovered due to urgent medical attention she received.

Haruna informed that  consequently, the decomposing baby was buried based on experts advise in order not to constitute health hazard to the public.

The Commissioner of Police CP John Abang, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State  CID, Awka, for discreet investigation.
