DELSUTH resident doctors begin 5-day warning strike over poor working conditions

Doctors at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, have begun a five-day warning strike starting today, May 22, 2025, over poor working conditions and inadequate hospital infrastructure.

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) says the hospital lacks functional equipment, a working ICU, and faces delays in CT scan installation. Operating theatres are poorly equipped, and most departments lack accreditation, delaying residency programs.

Doctors also decried severe manpower shortages, homelessness among house officers, and over 13 months of unpaid salary arrears. They demand urgent staff recruitment, installation of vital equipment, and payment of all entitlements.

An indefinite strike looms if progress isn’t made by June 19.
