The Federal Government is set to deploy seven million smart meters under the Presidential Metering Initiative to curb estimated billing and enhance power sector revenue.

Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen, made this known in Abuja during an interview marking the administration’s second anniversary.

She explained that the move would reduce losses and improve gas-to-power commercialization.

Additionally, the government plans to clear legacy debts caused by subsidy gaps and poor revenue collection.

In return, stakeholders are expected to raise capital and expand access to electricity.

Verheijen added that the DisCos’ governance structure will be reviewed to improve performance across the power value chain.
