The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), has confirmed that the death toll from recent flooding in Mokwa has risen to 153.
Acting DG Ibrahim Hussaini said more bodies were recovered Sunday beneath a bridge and buried immediately.
The floods, triggered by heavy rains midweek, displaced over 3,000 people and affected 503 households. Three bridges and dozens of houses were damaged.
While Ndayako and Raba communities reported no fatalities, they sustained infrastructure losses.
Relief efforts are underway, with the rainy season just beginning.
Experts warn of worsening flood risks due to climate change and Nigeria’s poor infrastructure. NSEMA continues to monitor the situation.
