The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, says Lassa fever cases are declining, but deaths remain high.
In its latest report, NCDC recorded 145 deaths this year, with a fatality rate of 18.6 percent ,slightly higher than last year’s 17.6 percent.
Confirmed cases dropped from 11 in week 29 to three in week 30, all in Edo and Ondo States.
Since January, Nigeria has recorded 825 confirmed cases and 155 deaths across 21 states, with Ondo, Bauchi, Edo, Taraba, and Ebonyi accounting for 89 percent of infections.
NCDC warns that late treatment, poor sanitation, and low awareness remain major challenges, and urges preventive measures like proper food storage, hygiene, and early medical care.
