The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 16 containers loaded with contraband worth over ₦10 billion at Apapa Port. Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi says the haul includes arms, ammunition, expired drugs, prohibited foods, and used clothing.
Items seized include two pump-action rifles, a pistol, over 100 kilograms of Canadian cannabis, seven containers of expired pharmaceuticals, and two containers of codeine syrup. Also confiscated were frozen poultry, counterfeit toothpaste, and unregistered medicines.
Five suspects were arrested , three already charged and remanded in Ikoyi Prison. Adeniyi vowed to work with local and international partners to ensure Nigeria does not become a dumping ground for illegal goods.
