Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare says it entertained over 4000 cases of gender-based violence and child protection in 2025.

The Commissioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo, disclosed this after defending the ministry’s 2026 Budget at the relevant House of Assembly Committee, in Awka.

The Commissioner informed that out of the over 4000 cases, the ministry reconciled over 3000 families, deploying Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), while other more complicated cases were charged to court.

She also revealed that the ministry secured over 400 convictions from January to December this year.

Commissioner Obinabo posited that with increased funding, her ministry would do more in protecting children, women, widows and men who are abused by their wives.

“Domestic violence affects not only women but men as well. Thus, no widow, woman, child, man, who is victim of violence should feel intimidated anywhere in Anambra State. The ministry will continue to protect the lives and welfare of Ndi Anambra.”

She encouraged residents never to fear as their welfare remains top priority, and promised to ensure stronger protections for all vulnerable groups in the coming year.

“Mr Governor is well prepared. Just be confident that no matter your location in the state, no man or woman will intimidate you. We will keep trying and pushing hard to stop all these illegal adoption of children, which has already been reduced by nearly 80%,” Obinabo maintained.

She further appreciated the House members for the bilateral discussion, urging Ndi Anambra to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, which she noted, is committed to their welfare and protection.
