The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Amadin William for allegedly killing his childhood friend, Eghosa Osarietinomwan, who had returned from Europe for the Yuletide holiday.

The incident occurred on December 22 at Oben community in Edo State during a housewarming ceremony hosted by the deceased.

Confirming the arrest on Sunday in Benin City, the police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said Osarietinomwan had invited family members and friends to his residence shortly after arriving from Europe.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly lured the victim away from the gathering to a nearby bush path, where he attacked him with a machete.

ASP Ikoedem said the victim sustained deep machete wounds to the neck after stepping out of the celebration.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead.

Following the attack, the suspect reportedly fled the community and went into hiding, but was later tracked and arrested by police operatives in Benin City on December 27.

“The suspect, after committing the crime, absconded and went into hiding but was tracked and arrested,” the police spokesperson said.
