The land they said belongs to them, but being taken over by neighboring village
The people of Umuenu in Umuawulu town in Awka South Council Area, have appealed to the State Government to come to their aid in reclaiming the land which, they said, belongs to them, but being taken over by the Enugwu Quarters, of the community.
They made the appeal during a peaceful protest

The protesters made up of men and women, the young and the old, carried placards with inscriptions, such as:
“Enugwu quarters leave our ancestral land alone, Agu Udo/Agu Ofu land belonging to us alone, please Enugwu leaders we know you have money and influence leave our land for us”, Umuenu is protesting against land grabbers, Enugwu leave our community land alone”, “Enugwu stop fighting Ndi-Umuenu of their ancestral land”.
Speaking during the protest, the President General of Umuenu Quarters, Comrade Benneth Mbolu, appealed to governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to urgently intervene by stoping the people of Enugwu quarters from entering the disputed land so as to prevent further killings.
He further revealed that the land in question is still before the High Court Awka.
“We are appealing to our Solution governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo not to allow any influence from any quarters to cede our ancestral land or part of it to Enugwu quarters as they are trespasser already stopped by the courts.
“As I speak, the land tussle has claimed the live of our former Chairman, late Humphrey Obi, who happened to be the only child of his aged parents. There is serious tension now in our quarters. We no longer go to farmer. We no longer sleep with our two eyes close because of fear of the unknown. We want the governor to stop the people of Enugwu quarters from entering the disputed land until judgement is pronounced by the Court.
“The land in question belongs to Umuenu people and not Enugwu as they petitioned
“We are not agitating for boundary demarcation with Enugwu quarters but to take full ownership of our land.
“Our statement of ownership is before the High Court in Awka with suit no-A/82/2021. We want the court process to continue. We want our ancestral land in full and not half.
It was gathered that the land in question claimed the live of a 49-year-old man, late Humphrey Obi, who, it was learnt, was macheted to death over the land tussle
According to Mbolu, the deceased Humphrey Obi, a father of four, and a former Chairman of the Umuenu village, was attacked by land grabbers from their neighbouring Enugwu quarters while farming in the alleged disputed land.
“Obi was brutally macheted to death by land grabbers from Enugwu quarters.
“This protest is to let the government of Anambra State and the general public to know what we are going through in the hands of Enugwu money bags and influencers. We are law abiding citizens of Nigeria, we want our land and a total Justice for our slain leader, Mbolu further appealed.
