African Energy Council Warns Against Media Trials In Oil Sector

The African Energy Council says ongoing media trials and repeated probes in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector are stifling growth and investment.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Council pointed to recent calls for the probe of former NNPCL GCEO, Mele Kyari, later withdrawn, as evidence of misplaced priorities.

It warned that while oversight is crucial, constant investigations distract from real challenges like low oil production, underperforming refineries, and sluggish reforms.

The Council urged focus on implementing the Petroleum Industry Act, boosting output above two million barrels per day, and restoring investor confidence.

It says the future of Nigeria’s energy sector lies not in courtrooms, but in effective leadership and operational delivery.
