Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), has predicted that intra-Africa trade could double in the next five years.
The AfCFTA, which encompasses 54 of 55 African Union member countries, aims to enhance economic growth and investment across the continent. Despite its establishment in 2020, progress has been slow due to challenges like inadequate infrastructure and complex governance. Mene highlighted that 37 countries are now ready to trade under AfCFTA rules.
Leaders from the public and private sectors will meet in Kigali, Rwanda, this week at the Biashara Afrika forum to address these challenges and explore opportunities for deeper integration.
