Agulu Town Suspends Activities Of Notorious Masquerade.

The activities of the (Akpala Mmuonwu or small masquerade ) in Agulu has been suspended.

The Igwe in Council in conjunction with village chairmen and Ichies and the Agulu Peoples Union Nigeria said their attention has been drawn to the system the youth of the town are masquerading lawlessness in the recent time.

In a statement which has been made public, it said that the Agulu People’s union has discovered that the masquerade(Akpala Mmuowu or small masquerade ) has been moving around with shotguns, cutlass, daggers, short axes and other related dangerous weapons which they all know is against the ethics of masquerade in agulu town.

It has also been discovered that the masquerade ( Akpala Mmuown or small masquerade ) has no respect in flogging people anymore and that the masquerade indiscriminately flogs people on moving motorcycles and destroying peoples cars, flogging people uncontrollably at Nwagu and its environs and also operates till 8:pm which is highly prohibited in the customs and tradition of great Agulu town.

IGWE IN COUNCIL

To that effect, the Agulu people’s Union together with Igwe in council in other to checkmate the menace of the masquerade ( Akpala Mmuonwu or small masquerade) has dissolved the custom and tradition committee led by Chief Christian Okonkwo as Chairman.

In the same vein, the Agulu people’s union in collaboration with Igwe in council also suspends the operation of (Akpala Mmuowu or small masquerade ) in Agulu till further notice with immediate effects starting from 24th January 2022.

In a statement signed by the Igwe Agulu, Igwe Innocent Obodoako and Sir Onyebuchi Okpala PG Agulu Peoples Union, the Agulu people’s union and Igwe in Council empowered only Ogwe Mmuowu and Nnekwu Mmuowu to operate when necessary and no person with Ogwe Masquerade and Nnekwu Mmuowu is allowed to hold or be with sticks of any type.

The statement also warned that any masquerade found disobeying the order will be seriously dealt with and any family that conducts a burial ceremony with masquerade ( Akpala Mmuown or Small masquerade ) in the display will pay a fine of N500,000 naira to Agulu people’s union Nigeria.
