Reverend Okeke gave the advice while delivering a sermon at Saint Mary’s Anglican Church, Mbaukwu, during the celebration to mark the CMS 163rd Anniversary, which was anchored on, “Crisis, the inevitability in change process”.
He noted that one of the causes of crisis is selfish interest, as most Christians are inconsiderate towards diverse opinions and challenges of others, pointing out that that was not how the forebears of the gospel lived.
He regretted that Christians now put their selfish interests forward as against the harmony of the church which has over time caused tension within the Christendom.
He called on all Christians to be more sensitive, patient, understanding and accommodating, insisting that it’s the only way to move the church forward.
He further narrated how the three boats of the CMS missionaries anchored at the Ikpele Mmiri Onitsha on 27th of July 1857, with 108 missionaries, while 54 had died on their way to Africa as a result of malaria.
He concluded that early missionaries lived a selfless live worthy of emulation.
