Anambra Assembly Speaker Okafor Calls For Promotion Of Food Hygiene For Healthy Living

Anambra State House of Assembly has said that it will support any initiative designed to arrest preparation of food in an unhygienic environment to nip in the bud, food poisoning in the state.

Our Correspondent reports that the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor gave the assurance when the management and staff of Food Initiative of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter paid him a courtesy visit at the Legislative Complex in Awka.

Welcoming his visitors, Right Honourable Okafor noted that with the organization, improper inspection of food contents and places where food is sold will be a thing of the past.

He commended the organization for heading the “Think Home Philosophy of Governor Willie Obiano “as the initiative will give jobs to Ndi Anambra and develop the state.

The Speaker, who maintained that food hygiene is very important to Anambra State, also assured the organization of their support as well as their readiness to encourage Ndi Anambra to join them to fill the one hundred and fifty slots given to Anambra State by the Federal Government.

Earlier, the State Director of Food Hygiene Initiative, Chief Christopher Okpalaugo explained that the organization came into existence five years ago to train and educate food handlers, hotels, restaurants, and farmers on how best to handle food to avoid food poisoning and contamination.

Chief Okpalaugo appealed to community and religious leaders including Local Government Chairmen to encourage their people to join the organisation.
