The Federal Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Health and other partners, has commenced the state-level screening exercise for candidates under the second phase of the National Health Fellows Initiative.
The exercise, which is part of the Federal Government’s National Health Fellows (NHF) 2.0 Selection Programme, began on Monday, January 12, 2026, and is scheduled to run until Friday, January 16, across the state.

Speaking on the exercise, the Desk Officer for the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) initiative of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Obianuju Okoye, explained that the programme is designed to select one Fellow from each local government area in Anambra State.
According to her, the initiative is aimed at strengthening primary healthcare service delivery while building a robust leadership pipeline for Nigeria’s health sector.
The Anambra State screening, which commenced as early as 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, is taking place at the World Health Organization office located within the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Panelists at the screening include the Anambra State Coordinator of the World Health Organization, Dr. Mohammed Bonos; the SWAp Desk Officer, Dr. Obianuju Okoye; and the Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, Chibueze Oforbuike.
The National Health Fellows Initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the revitalisation of primary healthcare systems and improve policy implementation at the grassroots level across Anambra State and the country at large.
