Months after the installation of a caretaker committee by the government to oversee activities in Agulu, the court sitting in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra on Friday (18th February) reinstalled Chief Oliver Afamuefuna as the authentic President General of Agulu People’s Union (APU).
According to the court’s judgment, the caretaker committee was constituted in bad faith, was an act of executive lawlessness, illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional and therefore null and void.
It therefore ordered against any group of people from parading themselves as the caretaker committee in Agulu, granting chief Oliver Afamuefuna and his elected executives the powers to conduct the affairs of Agulu as the duly elected Agulu People’s Union Exco.
Speaking on the judgement, Chief Oliver explained how his initial emergence as the President general after the election on 30th December 2020 was marred by some group of people who manipulated the process, causing the government to set up a caretaker committee.
He added that the Agulu people took it up legally, which led up to the court’s re-instalment of the elected executives of the Agulu People’s Union and cessation of the activities of the caretaker committee.
Chief Oliver also thanked everyone that supported them, promising the Union will work diligently.
On his part, the publicity Secretary, Hon Chinazo Onwuazombe stated that Agulu people were happy over the development, maintaining that the election on the 30th of December 2020 and the swearing-in by Justice Oguji, were properly conducted, hailing the court’s ruling upholding the election.
