Anambra Fire Chief Urges Citizens To Adopt Measures To Prevent Fire Outbreaks
Fire Chief, Anambra State Fire Service, Engr. Dr. Martin Agbili, has again reminded the citizens of the need to always take precautionary measures to prevent fire outbreaks this dry season.
Engr. Dr Agbili said this has become necessary following cases of fire outbreaks across the state.
He said that at about 1.20am on Wednesday, 21-02-2024, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of fire outbreak at Nkwo Market, Umunze.
He said that they immediately deployed fire truck and firefighters to the fire scene who fought, controlled and extinguished the fire with the assistance of some traders and members of the public who came out at the incident time.
The State Fire Chief hinted that the cause of the fire was not known but suspected power surge.
He further intimated that there was no casualty or loss of life during the fire incident but that about four shops were affected, which were mainly provision shops, plastic shop and hair attachments shop.
Engr. Dr Agbili therefore urged the citizens to always remember to switch off electrical and electronics appliances when they are not in use to avoid power surge.
Recall also that last Saturday, at about 4.45pm, there was heavy bush fire behind Male Hostel, Unizik.
The State Fire Chief said that immediately they got a distress call, they deployed firefighting truck and Firefighters who put off the fire and prevented it from entering the male hostel, assisted by some UNIZIK Security Personnel as well as some students.
He therefore, re-echoed the need for everyone to guard against any act that can result to fire outbreak.
