Two hundred farmers affected by flood disaster in Anambra East and West Federal Constituency recently received paliative to the tune of over 10 million naira aimed at assisting them in the next year’s farming season.

Each of the two hundred farmers got 20,000 naira, while improved seedings of high breed will also be distributed to them.

The farmers who were presented with Certificates of participation during the four day Sensitization of Rural Communities on the Adoption of Safe Biotechnology in Anambra State, were trained by the National Biosafety Management Agency.

The program was organised and sponsored by the member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Environment, was to ensure increase in food production to cushion the effect of flood in the area.

Speaking, Chief Obidigwe, posited that the program aimed at educating the rural farmers on ways of improving productivity through high breed seedlings.

He noted that the flood seriously affected the people and their farm lands, which, will in turn, affect productivity, hence the need to take proactive actions to prevent food scarcity.

He urged Federal Government and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to expedite action and provide seedlings on time before next year’s planting season.
