Anambra Government to stop salaries of Abacha PHC absconding health workers

By Chukwudi Nwauba/Azuka Nnabuife

The Anambra State Government says it will stop the salaries of 2 two health workers at Abacha Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) Idemili North Local Government Area,
for abandoning their duty posts.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, stated this during his unannounced routine visit to the center.

He maintained that 2 out of the 4 health workers at the Abacha Primary Healthcare Centre will not receive their salaries for not being at their post.

Dr. Obidike expressed displeasure at such nonchalant attitude of the workers, and vowed to take serious action concerning the alarming situation.

He cautioned all State Government Health workers across the state owned health facilities to brace up to the demands of their duties or resign their appointments so that committed people would be employed to discharge their duties creditably for the interest of the people.

“This is unacceptable for them to be denying people access to healthcare in this Community and as well sabotaging the efforts of Mr. Governor in healthcare sector of the State.

“I came here on a routine unannounced visit so as to have a first hand information on the activities of our health workers and was surprised to see this place under lock and keys.

“This Community recorded 2 percent in immunisation coverage and you can agree with me that the healthcare workers here contributed hugely to that.”

At the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Abacha Community, Igwe Godwin .N. Odiegwu, the Commissioner appealed to him to help address his people on the importance of immunizing their children.

“We all know that Immunization is the process by which a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically through the administration of a vaccine,” he said.

Responding, the traditional ruler promised that going forward his Community will improve on immunisation, and thanked the Commissioner for his commitment towards ensuring that health workers discharge their duties accordingly.

State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, while reacting to the development, said it is unfortunate that some public servants no longer take their job seriously..
