Anambra Govt. Directs Umuona Traditional Ruler To End Crisis Rocking The Community
Anambra State Government has directed the traditional ruler of Umuona in Aguata Council Area, Igwe Humphrey Ejesieme, to take measures to end the crisis rocking his community.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, gave the directive during a reconciliatory meeting with the traditional ruler, the President-General of the town, Mr Kenneth Okoli, and other town union Executives at the Government House, Awka.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne harped on the need for the traditional ruler and President-General to initiate a peace move, reminding the warring parties that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is totally committed to achieving lasting peace, promote and protect human rights in all communities in the state.
He appealed to them to jointly build a Community with shared future for human beings as wars or conflicts do no one any good.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne also urged the President-General to amicably work with the traditional ruler for peace and progress of Umuona Community.
He also appealed to the traditional ruler to lift the sanctions, as well as fines imposed, on some people in the town and re-absorb them into his kingdom, and promised to carefully study the constitution of the town for the sake of peace.
The Commissioner cautioned them to desist from using inflammatory and derogatory words, as well as physical attacks on individuals, and posited that the traditional ruler will conduct a peace meeting at the Umuona Civic Center to address his subjects as the Royal father, and as well forgive their shortcomings, while they in turn, will forgive the Igwe where he erred for sustained peace.
He further warned that government will not hesitate to adopt appropriate measures to punish any faction that goes against the peace move.
The President-General of Umuona, Chief Kenneth Okoli, who recounted how the conflicts started, agreed also that peace should be allowed to reign and thanked .the Commissioner for insisting that no one has right to remove any properly elected President-General from office under his watch.
Responding, the Former Chairman, Aguata Council Area, Chief Anthony Okoli, Chief Samuel Okolonwike, Rev Father Sabbastine Anokwulu, Nze Fabian Ezeofor and Chief Emeka Adilije, among others appreciated the efforts of the Governor and Commissioner in championing the cause of peace in the Community, while praying God to bless and reward them abundantly.
