Anambra Govt. Expresses Resolve To Settle Boundary Disputes Among Communities In The State
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has again warned communities engaging in land disputes against actions that contradict government’s approach towards resolving such disputes in a bid to restore peace in such communities..
Governor Soludo gave the warning when he visited the portion of land causing dispute between the people of Aboani Awgbu in Orumba North LGA, as well as Umuenu and Enugwu villages of Umuawulu, in Awka South LGA.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, who is the Chairman, of Anambra State Boundary Committee, restated government’s commitment towards restoring peace in all warring communities.
He, however, stressed that communities in land disputes must align with the government’s peaceful approach.
He frowned at the disposition of people of Umuenu village, Umuawulu, who did not show up at the boundary in dispute as earlier directed by the state Boundary Committee, and said that government will take necessary decisions and actions to resolve the age-long crisis and ensure that peace returns to the area.
The Governor asked communities in Anambra to always embrace peace which, he noted, is key to development and progress of any nation.
An indigene of Aboani Awgbu, Barrister Gabriel Ezeani, revealed that the boundary issue has lasted since 1925, thanked the state government for intervening on the matter, but pleaded that the government, while taking decisions on the issue, should take cognizance of the fact that from time immemorial, physical features like rivers are usually known as demarcations between communities, states, among others.
Among the Governor’s entourage were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Mr. Ekenechukwu Okoye, as well as members of the state Boundary Committee.
