Anambra Govt Parades Three More For Burning Tires On Tarred Roads On New Year Eve Despite Govt’s Warnings

Operatives of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, has arrested three more suspects for violating government’s warnings against burning of tyres on tarred roads during New Year eve.
The suspects were caught burning tyres on Court Road by Central Police Station in Awka,
The Managing Director of the Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere, during the late hours of Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and yesterday morning, led the taskforce team to the area where the arrests were made.
Comrade Anere explained that damaging public property in the name of festivities amounts to costly celebration and appealed to community leaders and stakeholders to take ownership of government properties in their domains by personally supervising public celebrations to ensure that tax payers money are not wasted by few minutes of excitement.
He regretted that apart from the fact that burning tyres release significant amounts of toxic pollutants with deadly chemicals into the atmosphere which are very harmful to plants, animals and aquatic life, State government’s drive to transform roads in the state is being sabotaged by such careless and lawless behavior.
Comrade Anere disclosed that all suspects would be charged to court with immediate effect after due documentation, stressing that government cannot fold its hands watching irresponsible elements destroy roads built with public funds.
He, therefore, enjoined Ndi Anambra to shun the practice of burning tyres on roads as it often leads to infrastructural decay, urging them also to report to the agency, any person found engaging in such act.
