Anambra Govt. To Include Physically Challenged Persons To List Of Teachers To Be Employed
Anambra state government plans to employ persons living with disabilities to teach in schools across the state so long as they qualify and meet the requirements for recruitment.
The Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Mr. Don Onyenji, who disclosed this in Awka, said this was part of the inclusive governance mechanism of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, that every strata of the society must be involved in governance as which implies giving government back to the people.
Onyenji explained that people with disabilities including the visually impaired and other physically challenged are part of governance in this administration.
He also revealed that special allocation was given and still being given to physically challenged, adding that they have special considerations in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise.
He pointed out that they would be teaching in schools because, according to him, they have the mental capacity to impart knowledge irrespective of physical disabilities and deformities.
Onenji maintained that nobody would be excluded as long as the person is qualified, having endured the disabilities through the university acquiring degrees and other relevant certificates; therefore, the person can not be denied employment.
The Commissioner said Soludo was bringing solution to everybody including the physically challenged and further noted that a lot of spectacular things were happening in the tourism and entertainment sectors..
He said any physically challenged person who can sing, perform, act or do anything in entertainment was protected and guaranteed.
According to him, that was the reason government was trying to create a liveable, lovable and prosperous Smart Mega City for Ndi-Anambra where they would excel in the sectors where they have unique selling points and comparative advantage.
