Anambra Govt To support Information Officers Upgrade From Analog To Digital
Anambra State Government says it will give all necessary support to local government information Officers to upgrade from Analog to Digital information and Communication technology.
This will assist them in packaging the activities and programmes of government from the grassroots.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, made this known when the Executive members of Anambra State Local Government Information Officers/ NUJ Local Government Chapel, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Government House Awka.
The Commissioner expressed government’s readiness to partner the group as according to him, Government gets first class information from the grassroots, hence the need for the digitization and creation of website where information will be received directly to enable information Officers from local government Areas access the base.
He urged the Information Officers to be more dedicated and factual in their reportage, expecting a well itemized official letter of support submitted to his office, promising to relay their message to the governor.
Responding, the Chairman NUJ, Local Government Information Chapel, Comrade Nnamdi Nweke, congratulated the Commissioner on his appointment.
Comrade Nweke explained that they came to identify with him as image makers who maintain Cordial relationship with community members.
He said that they discuss the policies and programmes of government with Community leaders, traditional rulers, presidents General and age grades among others as image makers at the grassroots, and also reminded the commissioner of their grassroot Newspaper that will be unveiled in September, this year, and solicited his financial support to make the project a reality.
Comrade Nweke further appealed to Commissioner Nwabunwanne to assist in training local government information Officers to be computer literate.
In her vote of thanks the Secretary of the Chapel, Dr Ebele Okonkwo, stressed that the main focus of their maiden Newspaper was to ensure that what happenings in all the 21 local governments of the state are well reported and documented and brought to the knowledge of the public.
She added that the News paper is expected to document Aspirants vying for various positions from all the communities especially now the general election is fast approaching.
The treasurer of the chapel, Comrade Uche Nworah and the Financial Secretary, Mrs Julie Emeh, were also present at the courtesy visit.
