Anambra Govt. Urged To Employ More One Thousand Nurses And Midwives To Replace Dead, Retired Ones

An appeal has gone to Anambra State Government to employ more One thousand Nurses and Midwives to replace dead and retired ones.
Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Anambra State Council, Comrade Edith Onwuka, made the appeal during a chat with journalists during the Workers Day Celebration at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
She applauded Governor Charles Soludo for bringing healthcare delivery to the door steps of the citizenry, stressing that health is wealth, hence the appeal.
Comrade Onwuka who is also the Chairman, Anambra State Joint Negotiating Council, explained that since inception of Governor Soludo’s administration, there has been drastic improvement in health Sector.
She intimated that the nursing workforce has over the years been grossly depleted through retirement, death and most recently, the brain drain, as their colleagues now seek greener pastures overseas and federal health institutions.
Comrade Onwuka appealed to the state Government to massively recruit Nurses with various Specialties for effective and efficient health care delivery for citizens and residents of the state.
She also appealed to government to approve at least 80 percent out of 100 percent consolidated health Salary Structure ( CONHESS) for Nurses and implement the National Reviewed Hazard Allowance for Nurses to motivate them for higher productivity and to curb the ravaging brain drain in the health Sector.
On her part, the Anambra State Coordinator for Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Lady Rosemary Otikpa appreciated Governor Soludo for recruiting thousands of teachers into the State work force.
She appealed to the Governor to ensure that the best teachers are employed by making sure that it is only qualified and certified teachers by Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria are employed to get rid of quacks in the Education system.
She explained that all teachers must be certified and licensed, pointing out that anyone who wants to teach must pass through the curriculum and be certified by the appropriate authority.
Otikpa maintained, “Apart from qualifications, you also need to register, reason being that teachers are dealing with children, so we need sound teachers that can be traced and we can verify the records of where they have worked last. “We need training and retraining of teachers including the entire workforce” she stressed.
