
The Anambra State government has expressed shock over the recent attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Governor on Sunday night, May 31, 2026, between 8:00pm and 9:00 pm along the Orumba North–Awka South borders, while returning from an official assignment.
In a Press Release issued by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Law Mefor, on 1st June , 2026, government described the incident as more than an attack on one person, but an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of the state, as well as the Government and people of Anambra.
The release informed that sadly, four persons lost their lives in the incident and deserve justice.
The Anambra State Government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of deceased persons, and shares in their grief.
According to the release, the police and other security agencies are working to apprehend and bring to justice, everyone involved in the evil act
It also observed that the isolated incident after more than one year of peace and security in the state will not affect the determination to erase all forms of crime from Anambra.
The Press Release reads:
“The Anambra State government is shocked following the attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Governor on Sunday night, May 31, 2026, between 8:00pm and 9:00 pm at the Orumba North–Awka South borders, while returning from an official assignment.
This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state, as well as the Government and people of Anambra.
Sadly, four people lost their lives and deserve justice.
The Anambra State Government sends its deepest condolences to the families of those who died and share in their grief.
The police and other security agencies are working to find and to bring everyone involved in this evil act to justice.
This isolated incident after more than one year of peace and security in the state will not affect our determination to remove all forms of crime from Anambra.
