Anambra Health Commissioner Urge Residents To Regard COVID-19 Protocols At Campaign Rallies

Commissioner for Health in Anambra state Dr Vincent Ogochukwu Okpala has stressed the need for strict observance of COVID-19 prevention protocols to curtail the spread of the dreaded virus.

Okpala who said that the war against COVID-19 was not yet over, emphasized the need for the observance of the non-pharmaceutical methods of COVID-19 prevention at large gatherings like campaign rallies and some others especially as it concerns the use of nose-mask, sanitization of hands at intervals, maintaining physical and social distancing and some others to save lives and interrupt spread.

The commissioner who gave the admonition noted that the ministry of health try as much as possible to make people observe the COVID-19 protocols and that visits some of the political rallies showed that some people really used nose-masks during such programmes.
Although the commissioner granted that some people still violated the COVID-19 preventive protocols, he said the ministry of health keeps on advocating and ensuring that they observed the protocols as it would help a lot to stem the circulation of the virus.

Confirming that COVID-19 vaccines were not enough in the state, he disclosed that Anambra state received 68, 100 doses of Modena vaccines and 13,792 doses of Astrazenika vaccines for phase two of the COVID-19 statewide vaccination exercise. He said for the first round of the exercise, the total number of persons vaccinated with Modena were 22, 869 persons while those vaccinated with Oxford Astrazenika were 11, 992 persons.

Revealing that the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency will undertake another round of COVID-19 vaccination at 72 vaccination posts, Okpala added that those eligible were people from 18 years and above and must go to the vaccination centres with their medical cards, stressing that the main objective of COVID-19 vaccination was to slow down and disrupt the transmission of COVID-19 outbreak in all parts of the country including Anambra state.

The health commissioner also disclosed that people can check their blood pressures and diabetes status at vaccination centres while urging all stakeholders at various levels in the state to kindly support in sensitising others on the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccination
