The Anambra State Police Command, has launched a free prostate cancer screening and treatment for its men who are 40 years and above.
The medical intervention was in partnership with the Stanley Medical Foundation and sponsored by Honorable Dozie Nwankwo, member representing Anocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency.
The State Commissioner of police, CP John Bassey Abang, who flagged off the intervention on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, at the Command’s Headquarters, Amawobia, said without a healthy police organization, the country can never be secured.
According to the Police Commissioner, given the nature and pressure that goes with police work, it was imperative they got medical attention constantly and check themselves to know some of the diseases that could bring them down to the level that they cannot perform their critical responsibilities.
He said when they constantly check themselves, then they can have preventive measures so that the investment the country made in them would not be in vain, stressing the importance of regular checks, at least once in months, so that such diseases can be controlled.
CP Abang implored every officer over 40 years to present themselves for the screening which he noted,was free.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, in his brief remark, promised Government support in promoting the health of police officers in the State.
Founder of the Stanley Medical Foundation, Dr Stanley Boniface, said they focused on prostate cancer because it is a leading cause of death among men in the world today.
He said the aim of the outreach was to foster the awareness for prostate cancer screening and the ills associated with the disease expressing gratitude to the Police Commissioner and the sponsor Honorable Nwankwo for his magnanimity.
The Command’s Chief Medical Officer, CSP Emelike Chineyenwa, in his vote of thanks, said the gesture was part of the IGP’s interventions for police officers to stay healthy, as they can only secure the nation if they are healthy.
