As the November 8, 2025, off-cycle Anambra State governorship election approaches, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has restated its commitment to securing lives, electoral infrastructure, and critical national assets while ensuring a safe voting environment through robust collaboration with sister security agencies.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant announced this during a familiarization visit to AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo, Assistant Inspector- General of Police in charge of Zone 13, at the Nigeria Police Zone 13 Headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra State, on Friday, 31st October 2025.
The State Commandant explained that the purpose of his visit was to interface with the AIG and express his appreciation for the support extended to the NSCDC in executing its mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, particularly in the context of Anambra election security management.
He underscored that the success of the upcoming gubernatorial election hinges on enhanced synergy among security agencies and effective collaboration with stakeholders and citizens.
The NSCDC, he assured, would maintain utmost professionalism in ensuring the state’s continued tranquility.
He cited the command’s significant successes in combating illegal mining and unauthorized private security operations, resulting in numerous large-scale arrests.
He advised Anambra residents to participate fully in the forthcoming election, stating that adequate security measures have been put in place by the NSCDC alongside other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere during, before and after the election.
Responding, AIG Abayomi Peter Oladapo welcomed the State Commandant, stressing the importance of genuine communication and collaboration among security agencies.
He condemned the tendency of junior personnel to fuel inter-agency rivalry and urged senior officers to strengthen their supervision in instilling spirit of esprit de corps among the ranks.
“Gone are the days when one security agency can claim superiority over another; security is not something one individual agency can effectively carry out. Therefore, there must be synergy and cooperation to ensure that the good people of this country conduct their activities free from the few who are making life unbearable for law-abiding citizens,” he said.
AIG Abayomi stressed the importance of robust intelligence sharing among security agencies tasked with delivering safe, secure, and credible election, emphasizing the need for personnel to ensure their own safety during operations.He acknowledged the unfortunate reality that corruption can infiltrate any organization.
To combat this, he encouraged security agencies to step up efforts in identifying and removing corrupt personnel from the system to create a safer and more secure workplace. Additionally, he stressed the need to of maintain professionalism in resolving disputes between security agencies.
Senior officers from the AIG’s Management Team and NSCDC were present at the familiarization visit.
