No fewer than five fire incidents were recorded on Monday in various parts of Anambra State.
The State Director, Fire Service, Martin Agbili who disclosed this to Journalists
said most of the incidents were caused by bush burning.

He urged residents to always check their surroundings, including cutting and clearing bush around their homes, churches, mosques, markets, schools, among others to avoid regrets as About 60% of the fire outbreaks fought within this dry season was as a result of indiscriminate bush burning that easily spread to structures.

Agbili noted that though the Majority of the bush burning occurred in rural communities where residents especially hunters indiscriminately set fire to bushes during the dry season urged residents of the state to take time and cut bushes to at least five feet away from residential homes, schools, churches, markets and offices as fire can easily spread from there to any closest structure.

Noting that distress calls are still coming into his phone in relative to fire emergencies the fire service boss stated that the first emergency call for Monday came at 10.39 am from Deeper Life Street, Ogbunike where the fire had ignited from bush burning and spread to the Sinaco Way House @ Deeper Life Str. Amawa, Ogbunike, Near toll gate.

He further stated that firebreaks also occurred in Azia at Kenneth Maduakor trailer park, Ihiala, Nwafia, close to Comprehensive Secondary School, Nwafia and
Amansea….at Holy Family, Ifite Awka/Amansea but affirmed his office had successfully fought the blaze to a halt in these locations.
