Anambra Road Crash: Conductor Dies, Many Passengers Injured As Driver Falls Asleep While Driving

Anambra State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says a Fatal Road traffic crash which occurred at Ihialla axis of the Onitsha – Owerri Road on Tuesday, 31th May, 2022, claimed the life of the Conductor, while four passengers were injured.

The crash involving a Zhongtong Luxurious Bus with registration number: NNE423XB, and the other vehicle which details were not gotten, occurred at about 5 o’clock in the morning.

A release signed by the Acting Sector Public Education Officer, RC Margaret Onabe, disclosed that the crash involved 22 people comprising 17male adults, and 5 female adults.

The cause of the fatal crash was attributed to fatigue and loss of control.

An eyewitness who was also a passenger in the Luxury bus, said the driver was tired, slept off while driving, lost control, and hit a vehicle at the front which incidentally did not stop.

The injured victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Ihialla, while the dead victim was deposited at same hospital’s morgue by FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 Ihialla Unit Command.

The FRSC personnel also cleared the traffic obstruction caused by the crash.

Anambra State Sector Commander, Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, while reacting to the incident, sympathized with the families of the dead victim, and wished the injured quick recovery.

He urged drivers to ensure they observe the regulatory rest period before plying the road.

Commander Irelewuyi cautioned that traffic rules and regulations must be obeyed at all times. .
