The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petition and Conflict Resolution has vowed to probe the Director of Lands in the State Ministry of Lands, Mrs. Tina Ewelukwa, and others over mismanagement of land documents as well as other sharp practices.
The Committee made this known when the Director, Permanent Secretary and other staff of the Ministry appeared before the Committee to defend petitions filed against the Ministry by Chief Jude Osude and Mrs. Obiamaka, through their lawyers, that their land documents were revoked, renamed and handed over to Mr. Jonathan Okoli family and Nkiru Uzor, without due process.
The Lawmakers said the probe would commence in three days time, if Mrs Ewelukwa and others failed to give proper account of what has been happening in their various offices.
The House Commitee Chairman, who is the member representing Orumba North Constituency in the State Assembly, Honourable Emeka Aforka, said majority of the petitions he has received so far against the Ministry since the inauguration of the 8th Assembly were issues of missing land documents.
He wondered how a Director, who has been in service for 28 years, would not know how files have been missing indiscriminately, showing that something was corruptly wrong in the Lands Ministry.
The Committee Chairman assured the Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali, that the committee will give its maximum support in correcting the anomalies in the Ministry.
Mr Aforka also charged those who have similar cases with the Ministry to file their petitions for appropriate actions.
In their separate reactions, Chief Jude Osude and the counsel to Mrs Obiamaka, Barrister Robert Okwoego, appealed to the lawmakers to carry out thorough investigations into the matter to unravel the true owners of the lands’ documents for the sake of peace and justice.
