Anambra State Government distributes free inputs to farmers ahead planting season

Anambra State Government has distributed farm inputs like seedlings, fertilisers and other chemicals to farmers across the state to improve their yield and reduce overhead costs.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba revealed this at the just concluded `Meet The Media’, an interactive forum created by the Governor’s Media Group to interface with critical Government functionaries.
According to the commissioner Gov. Willie Obiano had during one of his COVID-19 special broadcasts promised that the government will freely distribute farm inputs and provide for farmers implements to cultivate crops, in other to cushion the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The commissioner aslo noted that farming which was previously abandoned for only rural dwellers had now become very attractive to everybody including urban dwellers in view of the present government’s enormous investments in the sector.

Mr Onukwuba revealed that the free farm input distribution was flagged off at Nteje, Headquarters of Oyi Local Government Area on April 29th. items shared include about 15, 000 bundles of cassava stems, 2,000 bags of organic fertilisers, 2,000 bags of lime, biofertilisers, treated maize and Okro seedlings.

He pointed out that the government also provided donor agencies with counterpart funding in setting up aggregation points to provide processing and storage facilities for smallholder farmers in order to cut wastage while noting that these efforts by the present administration is aimed at ensuring food sufficiency in the state throughout the year, by taking off pressures from farmers and purchasing their produce to store properly instead of allowing them to sell off at cheap prices.
