Anambra State Government Flags Off National Youth Volunteer Program For Hand Washing , Clean Nigeria Campaign

Anambra State Government through the Commissioner for Water Resources and Public Utilities, Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne has flagged off the national youth volunteer Programmed for hand washing and clean Nigeria campaign on COVID-19 prevention.

According to I Witness Media, the programme which was a collaboration between Anambra State Ministry of Water Resources and Public Utilities and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources was held on 10th June 2021 at the Conference Hall of the Ministry, government house, Awka.

In his address, the Commissioner for Public and Water Resources, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, said the programme will engage over two thousand youths as sanitation and hygiene ambassadors in the State for three months and will centre on the importance of safe water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) practices for COVID-19 prevention in the State.

Engineer Ezenwanne,also recalled that on 31st of March this year, a team from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and National Taskforce on hygiene, after their work in Anambra East Local Government Area, declared the area open defecation-free, which made it the only local government in the entire South East that is free of open defecation.

The Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Suleiman Adamu, represented by Mrs. Chinyere Obiano, said the National Youth Volunteer Programme is one of the interventions of the Federal Government of Nigeria aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

He revealed that the program will engage one hundred youth volunteers in each of the seven hundred and seventy-four local government areas in the country, for community sensitization and awareness creation on safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices for COVID-19 prevention over a three months period.

One of the participants and Traditional ruler of Umueri Community, Igwe Sir Bennett Emeka commended the state government and Federal Ministry of Water Resources for the programme and promised to take the campaign to his community and others.
