Food and drinks vendors in Anambra State have been urged to improve on environmental hygiene and general sanitary safety for a safer Anambra environment.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Dr Christian Madubuko made this call during a-three-day training workshop for restaurants and night club owners in the three senatorial zones in Anambra State. The training was held at Nnewi North Local Government Headquarters.
Our correspondent reports that the workshop which was organized by Anambra State Hospitality Industry, through the state Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism in collaboration with Lifeconsult Mega Services, was targeted at enlightening the vendors on how best to improve on food services and hygiene, to increase their incomes and as well to contribute in boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
Declaring the workshop open, Dr Madubuko, described personal hygiene as one of the important principles of food safety, and told the operators to ensure that the food they serve the people are safe.
Dr Madubuko further stated that the Ministry would commence enforcement of compliance next week to ensure that restaurant and bar operators adhere to necessary guildlines mapped out for them.
Contributing, the chairman on the occasion, Honourable Abuchi Nduba, and the Acting Director, Hotel and Hospitality Department of the Ministry, Mrs Stella Anah, noted that the seminar was an avenue to encourage the operators towards taking their business to the next level and charged them to improve on their sanitation to ensure the safety of food they dish out to the public.
Some participant, including Messers Paul Ugochukwu, MacAnthony Chigozie and Ngozika Uchegbu, said that the seminar was apt and would go a long way to opening their eyes to best dietary practices.
Certificates of registration were also issued to the participants by the Commissioner.
